Remarks   It is often multi-trunked, densely branched, and twiggy. Prefers full sun and well-drained soils but will tolerate poor soils, various soil pHs, compacted soils, drought, heat and winter salt spray. Foliage starts reddish, but quickly matures to dark green. Fall color is burgundy to wine.  Densely branched with thorns.  Provides excellent nesting sites for small birds.
