| Another consideration..... | Most nurseries purchase trees from a wholesale supplier and have them shipped to the store. In order to keep shipping costs low trees are dug and wrapped in burlap (Balled & Burlaped or B&B) with only a small amount of roots and dirt, thus lowering the cost of transport. Consequently trees are often left to survive with only 15 - 20% of its original root system intact. This results in lower survival rate and high watering requirements. This tree is a good example..... it was a 3" Dogwood, notice how little of the root system remains to support the tree. | |||||
